Nürburg, Germany - Mexican driver Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez registered what has been his best event so far in the 2009 season of the Formula 3 Euroseries.
This start to the second half of the calendar brought in seven points for Esteban after a second place qualifying on Friday, a podium finish with third on Saturday´s race, and finishing with a sixth place this Sunday.
Esteban had an excellent start of the race from sixth position, which allowed him to gain two places on the first corner.
Later on, an incident at the back of the field brought out a yellow flag and the safety car was out for a couple of laps, impacting Esteban´s pace and the conditions for achieving a better position.
Despite all this, the young driver went after his teammate Jules Bianchi and closed the race in exciting form, only 0.072 seconds behind, finishing sixth.
The young driver, who is tenth in the championship, with 16 points, will arrive at Monterrey next Monday night.
He will stay in town for about two weeks in which he plans to spend time with his family and friends, meet with the media and continue his physical preparation.
“In today’s race, starting from sixth, I managed to pass two cars on the first corner after the race started. All through the first lap I was fighting for fourth with my teammate Valteri Bottas, but in the end he kept it as he was slightly faster than me in the first laps,” the driver explained.
“It was a very competitive race, all the cars were very similar in speed and therefore overtaking was very difficult. I tried to overtake my teammate Jules Bianchi in the last corner of the last lap, after he made a mistake in the previous corner. I enjoyed the fight very much because we raced each other with fairness and crossed the line side by side", commented Gutierrez.
“It was a great weekend for the team as we had been looking for a 1-2-3 result from the first race and thank God it finally happened this weekend. There was a very good vibe within the team and I think this kind of interaction will be very helpful to keep us motivated and pursuing more results like these.”
“We will continue working hard to maintain our potential and even continue improving until we finally win. Greetings and a big hug to all my fans for supporting me through this challenge,” concluded Esteban.
Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, and Bell for supporting him on this stage of his career.
