Nürburg, Germany - This Saturday the Mexican flag waved on the podium of the Formula 3 Euroseries after Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez drove a smart race to finish third in the eleventh round of the season.
The young 18 year old driver, who has now seven top ten results in a row, started from second and demonstrated his ability by keeping up with the leaders and managing the pressure to avoid making mistakes.
This is the first time this year that the Mexican driver has been on the podium, and he did it in this German track that is considered one of the most challenging circuits in the world.
For French team ART Grand Prix, this was the first time this season that their drivers share the podium, as Gutierrez´s teammates, Jules Bianchi and Valtteri Bottas finished 1st and 2nd, respectively.
Esteban’s progress and the team’s hard work are more evident after seven consecutive top ten results and this podium, which will add up a good amount of points for the Team´s Championship standings.
The Latin American driver shortened the points distance to his rivals thanks to the six points he earned with this third place. He is tenth in the standings, with 15 points.
Esteban will start tomorrow’s race from sixth and he hopes for the right conditions so he can overtake and do a smart race to add up even more championship points.
“I feel very happy for being in this position, for being Mexican and for all the support I have received from my sponsors and people close to me. At the start I lost some grip because I started from the dirty side of the track and my teammate Valtteri took second place on the first corner," said Esteban.
“It was difficult from there because I had one car ahead and one behind putting pressure on me, so I just focused in making no mistakes and try and put up some distance.”
“It is a pleasure to be on the podium with my two teammates, as this shows the great job the team has been doing. It is important to keep the same pace to close the gap to the leaders. I am very satisfied with the result, even when I lost one place, it was a race I enjoyed very much and that for me is one of the most important things,” he added.
“We will start tomorrow’s race from a good position, we hope thing turn out right to add up some more points. I will do my best to keep the name of Mexico and the Latin Americans on the top," concluded the driver.
Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, and Bell for supporting him on this stage of his career.
