Esteban Gutierrez Goes Through a Chaotic Race in Norisring

June 28, 2009

Nuremberg, Germany – After having achieved his best result in the season so far; an excellent fourth place and receiving his first 5 points of the season in yesterday´s race, the driver Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez, from the French team ART Grand Prix, aboard car number 23 went through a very eventful race with incidents not only for him but also for the other drivers.

After having started in fifth position and having had an excellent start of the race, Esteban had the misfortune to come into contact with another driver in the first curve.

This caused him to lose a few places and did some damage to the car. Despite this first incident, the young driver of 17 years of age managed to stay on the track. However, he was unlucky enough to have the incident repeat itself a few laps later when the car which was behind Esteban couldn´t brake on time and bumped the back of car No. 23 pushing it into the car in front and going straight in the curve. This situation caused him to go down into position 21.

Despite the incidents which Esteban had in the race and the damage that his car received, the young Mexican driver managed to stay in the race going up places lap by lap and managing to cross the finishing line in twelfth position, taking with him a great learning experience in all aspects in this sixth round of the season.

"It’s a very difficult track in a race situation because it’s so narrow and the curves are very closed. This makes it difficult not to touch the other cars."

"I had a good start so I tried to overtake to get into fourth place and when I got to the first curve the other driver closed me off and it was difficult to brake in time because at that point I was in a very dirty part of the track. The car got a bit damaged but luckily we could continue the race till the end in spite of other incidents. It was a difficult race but I learned a lot and got greater confidence with the car. I thank God for the good result in the first race and I’m going home very happy with what we accomplished from the event this weekend”, commented Esteban Gutiérrez.

Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, & Bell for all their support given in this new challenge called Formula 3 Euroseries.

Races 7 and 8 of the season will take place next 17-19 July on the Zandvort circuit, Holland which is 4.307 kilometers long. Esteban raced in this circuit 3 weeks ago in the Masters of Formula 3.
