Nuremberg, Germany – Making his learning experiences very clear, the young Mexican driver Esteban Manuel Gutiérrez Gutiérrez achieved his first points in the fifth round of the Formula 3 Euroseries 2009.
Thousands of fans from motor racing world came to the street circuit of Norisring which is 2.3km long, to witness the first race of the weekend which was affected by a drain lid which came loose during the practice sessions of the DTM series. This made the competition begin an hour and a half late after the incident.
Since the beginning of the race, there were yellow flags shown for various contacts.
Then, the rest of the drivers roughly did 12 laps around the track under a green flag, then later a red flag was shown as a strong storm began. At the end, Esteban crossed the finishing line in the same position which he started in; an excellent fourth place, gaining his first 5 points of the championship.
Tomorrow, Sunday, is the sixth round of the European Championship which is 48 laps or 40 minutes.
"It was a very short but competitive race. At the start I focused a lot on avoiding contact as it is a very dangerous curve when starting and if you are very aggressive it is probable that you will be out of the race”, expressed Esteban.
"I still need to improve a bit at the start to be able to maintain my position or even move up, but most importantly avoid contact with the other cars in the first curve. I am very happy to have been able to gain my first points as it has cost us a lot of effort in different aspects. This is a step forward which shows progress and I hope to continue adding points to be able to get into a good position in the championship. From here onwards it is very important to go forward with firm steps, making conscious decisions to make strong bases and in this way we will soon have our first victory” clarified the driver.
Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, & Bell for all their support given in this new challenge of Formula 3 Euroseries.
