Esteban Gutierrez

 Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez was second fastest on the first day of the GP2 Series official training that is taking place at the circuit of Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain.

There were two sessions today. On the first one, Gutierrez was fifth after making 22 laps around the track with a best lap time of 1 minute 26.408 seconds.

“The main thing is that we are very happy because the season is on, starting off with this training. We have been focusing on our programme, trying different things on aerodynamics and suspension.

“We are working on that because of the rule change that is coming, according to which you can use any aerodynamic configuration you want for qualifying while the setting for the race will be limited and that causes a dramatic change in the balance of the car; that is why we tried several options that will help us make the right decisions during the season”, said the Mexican.

 
In the afternoon session, French team Lotus ART´s driver was able to make further 27 laps around the track with a best lap time of 1 minute 26.496 seconds.

“It was very positive as we had no problems preventing us from taking the track and the fact that we were able to cover our programme keeps us happy and moving forward. Definitely today´s results are a good reference point and we see we keep getting better.
 
“We have to continue working. We cannot take things easy; we have to get better a move forward with the training programme to be in good shape when the first event comes”, added Gutierrez.

Activity will continue for the Mexican driver on the second day of testing for season 2012 of the Formula One feeder series.

“We are going to complete the programme; that is our focus for the remaining days of testing. We are going to check a few things on the suspension area; we are going to try and solve a few small things that we´ve had quite frequently; and we are going to improve on those areas”, he remarked.
