Esteban returns to Mexico after his outstanding experience in Formula 1

Monterrey, Mexico - After taking part in the Young Driver Days sessions with Formula One team Sauber, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez returned to Monterrey to enjoy a few days with his family before his next professional appointment at the Grand Prix of Brazil.

At his arrival to Mexico, Gutierrez talked about his experience from last Wednesday and Thursday at the Yas Marina circuit of Abu Dhabi and what driving Sauber’s C30 car meant to him.

“This experience allowed me to experiment my driving at the wheel of the C30 Formula One car, to test the different systems the team has and to do many test laps trying different settings under a variety of circumstances and car conditions that I enjoyed very much.

“What’s most important is that I was able to provide accurate feedback, which was my main focus for this test; by driving at the limit and getting a feel of how it works I helped the team increase their technical knowledge of the car”, said the driver.

Esteban sees training and Formula One events as a part of his preparation towards his arrival to this category, besides he said he will make use of this learning in the next season of the GP2 Series where he will be driving for team Lotus ART.

“To certain point this is also a preparation and part of my development as a driver; in GP2 there are not as many variables as in Formula One, where you can modify the entire car, there are many valuable team decisions and many people involved in the team.

“It has been very helpful because usually I am there to race and don’t get a perspective of what happens behind the scenes; being there becoming familiar with the team and getting to know the atmosphere that exists in a team as big and professional as Sauber, and to end up testing the car is something very special for me,” he added to his commentary.

On a different note, he said his experience in GP2 and F1 have made him evolve not only as a driver but as a person as well.

“It is not that I became magically more mature overnight, this is a process and throughout my career I have lived things that have allowed me to have a better control of my mind because there are always ups and downs in which you can have an excellent race one day and to crash the next time out. This kind of situations help you understand and to value what you have”, he remarked.
