On his last GP2 race of the year, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez showed again his talent by climbing up 16 places to finish fifth on the Sprint race at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
After a difficult Feature race in which his rear wing was hit and damaged, causing him to finish 21st and having to start from that place this morning, Lotus ART´s driver moved up 16 places on the field to finish the race in the top five.

“I enjoyed this race very much. I don’t care too much about what happened yesterday; I tried to forget about that to do the best possible job in the last race. I was emotionally stable, as I always try to be, to stay in control and keep my motivation.
“It definitely was an interesting time; I was able to learn many things. First we got hold of the tire management, plus in Abu Dhabi we demonstrated that we have the speed and that shows that the team is working well to improve”, said Esteban.
Gutierrez crossed the line fifth with a total time of 41:53.206. The race was dominated by Esteban’s teammate James Calado (41:26.194), who joined the team taking the seat left by Jules Bianchi.
“The team was very happy with the whole scenario, including my team mate’s victory. All of that is very positive, it is something that leave us with a nice feeling prior to our preparation for the next season.
“We leave with a positive balance. Personally this has helped my confidence, both mentally and emotionally. Now we look into the future and the things to come”, he remarked.
20-year-old driver is not creating any expectations for the next year; instead, he will continue working to get to season 2012 of the F1 feeder series in the best shape possible.
“We are not creating expectations. We are simply going to prepare ourselves in the best way, we are going to live the present and to try and enjoy with the entire team”, he said.
