Lotus ART GP car number 6 rear wing was hit and damaged at the start of the race, causing Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez to cruise through the Feature race of the GP2 Series at Yas Marina circuit of Abu Dhabi to eventually finish in the 21st position.

Gutierrez started from eighth on the grid and climbed up to fourth on the first lap, but his car was hit from behind, damaging the rear wing and forcing him to visit the pits, which caused him to lose positions and to finish the race in 21st place with a time of 1:00:19.691.

“We did a great start and reached P4 but while on the fifth corner I was hit from behind and my rear wing was damaged; such things happen and we have no control of them, all I could do was just keep the car on the track after that.

 
“With a damaged wing you lose a lot of time and the truth is there was not much that we could do in that condition; it was difficult to take but after having passed through so many things we will just keep taking he best out of the experience and move forward”, said the driver.


Despite this result, the 20 year old driver looks optimistic and even though he knows how difficult it is to overtake on this circuit, he will have a competitive attitude on the Sprint race, which closes this year’s activities of the F1 feeder series.

 
“I have mixed feelings about it. I could not say that I am disappointed, it is indeed a little frustrating but I feel calm about it, it does not affect my spirit; it is difficult to judge the driver who hit me from behind, it was a race incident.

 
“It is difficult to overtake, but we will take this time to see where we can make the best use of our speed during the race, we are going to do our best effort, keeping the tires, as those who are conservative in this aspect will benefit the most in the end”, he remarked.


The race winner was Fabio Leimer at Racing Engineering, finishing the race with a total time of 58:53.563, followed by Brazilian racer Luiz Razia (59:00.474) at Caterham Team AirAsia, and Barwa Addax Team’s Jolyon Palmer (59.22.271) completing the podium.
