Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez finished his participation in the GP2 Series inside the points zone of the Sprint race by crossing the finish line in sixth place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, in Italy.
Gutierrez started from the ninth spot of the grid and was able to move up two places at the start of the race, and later on he had an intense fight with Adam Carroll who eventually lost his position when he could not hold the pressure Esteban was putting on him.
Despite the Lotus ART driver had a difficult qualifying and started the Feature race from the back of the grid, he managed to come from behind in both races to finally reach a points result in the Sprint race.

“It really was a great experience after the qualifying we had. We obviously were looking to have a good result in the last race of the season and it was difficult with the mistakes we made but we recovered ourselves in the first race.
“Yesterday’s race was critical, and we moved up a little further today. Yesterday we were one place short of the points and the pole position for today, but aside from that it was a good result for us”, said Esteban after the race.
Gutierrez and the team worked well their strategy for the weekend after the accident that forced the Mexican to finish his qualifying session early.
“First we thought about the clutch procedure that is so important at the start of the race and I managed to have a good start and gained many positions in the first race.
“We wanted points this weekend and it was important to get one today, but the entire year has brought a lot of learning and experience for me. There were many ups and downs during the season but as an individual I learned and saw many things for the future”, he added.
Esteban Gutierrez finished the race in 33 minutes and 02.727 seconds. First place was Racing Engineering’s driver Christian Vietoris with a time of 32:51.770, with Rapax’s Fabio Leimer in second with 32:52.500 and Mexican’s team mate Jules Bianchi in third with 32:54.621.
