Esteban accomplishes his goal after overtaking in Monza

Monza, Italy - Once again Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez proved that he is able to overcome adversity, when he gained 16 positions in the Feature race to finish in the top ten drivers in the last round of the GP2 Series season.

Gutierrez qualified in 25th place for which he had to start from the back of the pack at the Autodromo di Monza, and right from the start he gained several positions to eventually finish in ninth place with a total time of 48 minutes, 16.148 seconds.

“A good start was important and I thought a lot about that and in the end it turned out well for us, as in the first lap I was able to gain many places and climbed up the field little by little.

“We had to decide when to pit and decided to do it early when we saw a gap where I could gain some time and leave the pits with a clear track, which was important because there was nobody in front of me and you have all the car aerodynamics working for you and that is good to make good lap times and by doing that I gained more places in the race”, said Esteban.

Team Coloni’s Luca Filippi finished first in 47 minutes and 47.704 seconds, ahead of Charles Pic at Addax with a time of 47 minutes and 53.331 seconds, and Romain Grosjean at Dams with 47 minutes and 53.918 seconds.

“As a team we did great. In tomorrow’s race it will be critical for Jules (Bianchi) and me to have a clean race to try and fight for the third place in the team’s championship”, added team Lotus ART’s driver.

Esteban Gutierrez will start the Sprint race from ninth on the grid, and it will be the last time this year, as this will be the final event on the F1 feeder series season.

“I also have to say that there is still room for improvement and we are reviewing the data to make more progress in the mechanic aspect as well. We’ve been talking about that and we hope the decisions we make for tomorrow’s race will turn out well.

“I am very happy and I will try and enjoy the final race, and after that I will continue working to be better in the future”, he remarked.

Lotus ART Crowned in GP3

In 2010, French team Lotus ART conquered the GP3 championship at the hand of Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez, and this year, they have again become champions with Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas and his team mate James Calado fought for the title until the final event of the GP3, which took place at the circuit of Monza, Italy.

Such fight was very intense and brought the conclusion down to this morning’s race, where Valtteri took the biggest part by taking his fourth win of the season and with it, the driver’s championship title, with which Lotus ART has won both championships this season.
