Esteban to fight from the back in Monza

Monza, Italy - An accident in qualifying ended early Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez’s session, for which he will start from P25 on the grid for the last Feature race of the GP2 Series season at the Autodromo di Monza.

It was the first lap into the session when French team Lotus ART´s driver lost control of the car and hit sideways against the wall. It was a heavy shunt that fortunately Esteban escaped harmless.

“It was a difficult day but we did well in practice. We had a few brake problems at the beginning but we fixed them and then what happened in qualifying was my mistake and it affected us very much.

“Basically what happened is that I lost control on a fast turn and I hit the wall sideways. It was a heavy crash. Thank God I am ok”, said the driver.

Gutierrez’s time was 1 minute 35.228 seconds and he’ll start tomorrow’s race looking to gain positions and achieve a good result in the closing of the F1 feeder series season.

“I only managed one lap and it was not quick enough to make it better than 25. It was a costly mistake; I am trying to deal with it but what’s important is that we remain calm and focused.

“We have to be realistic about tomorrow. Weather conditions are different but we are going to do our best trying to gain positions. We are going to do it smartly, trying to finish the race, which is the most important thing at the moment", he remarked.

Addax’s Charles Pic took pole with a lap time of 1 minute 32.349 seconds, while Esteban’s team mate Jules Bianchi will start from 19th after having car problems himself.

“We are going to look into the data we gathered; we´ll exchange our points of view looking for a point where we feel we are heading in the right direction; we have to keep our feet on the ground and stay motivated”, concluded the Mexican.
