Esteban wishes an excellent GP2 season finale

With the goal of having a flawless weekend and reach a points result, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez is ready to participate in the final GP2 event at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, in Italy.

French team Lotus ART’s driver expressed his excitement when approaching the closure of his first season in the F1 feeder series, where he will make the most out the practice time to have a car well set up for racing.

“I am very excited about the last event of the season because the setting of the car is very specific for Monza - even more than Spa – in terms of aerodynamic configuration, so I believe the races are going to be very competitive.

“Basically, the plan is to make a very good use of practice time to set up the mechanical aspects of the car, which I believe will be critical in qualifying, and use that to be prepared for the races as well”, Esteban said.

This track suits well to the 20 year old driver, who has clinched two championships here, such as the Formula BMW Europe and the GP3 Series just last year with the same Lotus ART team.

“We have done well here in the past, we achieved championships like the Formula BMW and GP3 last year and it is a circuit that brings very good memories. We are aware that this time it is the GP2 Series but it will still be an interesting experience.

“Having achieved good results here makes me feel motivated. We remain cold headed but I know the track well and that allows me to focus on using the practice session to set up the car”, he added.

Since this has been his first year in the GP2, Gutierrez has had to work on getting used to the car but the driver from Monterrey Nuevo Leon says his driving has improved although there are still many things to learn.

“I have improved during the season, but up to this point I am still learning and there is a moment when you want to use all your knowledge and the potential you have as a team and that is what we intend to do this weekend”, he remarked.

The objective for the weekend is to find consistency and reach the points paying zone. Currently Esteban is 14th in the championship standings, with 14 points.

“We want to get points, in both races if we can. We want a good result, especially because it is the last event of the season. We have to keep in mind that this is the last event and the priority is to make it flawlessly, without mistakes”, he concluded.
