Esteban accomplishes successfully his participation in Spa

Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez did a great job today after starting 14th on the grid and climbing up to gain positions and finish seventh in the Sprint race of the GP2 Series in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.

Gutierrez and French team Lotus ART did some changes after the first race of the weekend where car problems resulted in the driver having to start from the 14th place this morning.

“It was much better than yesterday. Actually yesterday we lost positions and today we found the solution and climbed up the field, which keeps us motivated because yesterday’s result was a little frustrating, but we’ll move on and keep working.

“What we did was a little risky and extreme but it turned out well and we achieved our objective even though we would have liked to gain some points. The changes were basically the car aerodynamics that affect the speed in turns and straights,” said the driver.

Esteban finished the race in 39 minutes and 49.198 seconds. Luca Filippi won the race in 39:34.834, with Jules Bianchi –Esteban’s team mate – crossing the line second in 39:39.310 and Josef Kral getting home third in 39:41.691.

“It was a difficult weekend. The race yesterday was held under mixed conditions and today we were more consistent all around, there was overtaking and it was very good for us. In general terms it was a great experience - as it has been with each race of the year – from which we will take the positive aspects to continue strengthening our skills.

“This is a demanding track in many aspects. In terms of driving it is a circuit with fast speed turns and with straights where you reach very high speeds, which make for a demanding circuit where you need a lot of confidence, that is why I struggled to get used to it,” he added.

Now Gutierrez is getting ready for the event that will conclude the 2011 season of the F1 feeder series, which will take place in Monza, Italy in two weeks.

“I feel a little strange because the season has passed very fast and we have to make the most out of the final event. We are going to prepare to try and earn some points,” he concluded.
