Spa, Belgium - On a day that was affected by the weather during both practice and qualifying sessions, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez finished 10th fastest and will start tomorrow’s feature race in Belgium from that position.

During the morning practice, team Lotus ART’s driver struggled to do the job with the weather changing conditions on the track, but was able to improve for qualifying.

“We had a difficult time with the mixed conditions and a few yellow flags. Things were difficult but eventually we managed to work as planned although a yellow flag during my fast lap forced me to reduce the speed, affecting my best time”, said the driver.

In practice, Gutierrez finished 21st while his best qualifying lap time was 2 minutes 21.887 seconds to place himself on the tenth spot of the grid, with which he expects to do a good job and earn points in the first race at the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

“We are happy with the achievements of the day despite the mixed conditions during each of the sessions. We are pleased with our tenth place; we are in the top ten and will continue working to meet our goal.

“We are going to do our best. It is a long race and we’ll wait to see how the track conditions are to do the best possible work and reach the points paying zone”, he added.

Christian Vietoris who races for Team Racing Engineering, got the pole position with a best lap time of 2 minutes 18.345 seconds.
Esteban wishes a quick recovery to the affected families.

After a violent incident that left 52 death people in Esteban’s home town of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexican driver sent his condolences to the affected families.

“I was shocked to hear the news. People are going through difficult times. We’ve heard about violence escalating to a higher level and it is time to be united as a country and move forward trying to recover from this crisis.

“My condolences to all the families that are going through these difficult times. We have faith in God to things to get better soon. I am a little sad but we have to keep moving forward”, he remarked.
