Esteban returns to GP2 activity, and is going for all in Belgium

Spa, Belgium - With a great environment within Lotus ART GP team and the motivation to do a good job this weekend, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez is back in action with the qualifying session for the next to last event in the 2011 season of the GP2.

Gutierrez spent some time in his hometown of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, prior to the weekend in Belgium, and today – totally focused in the last part of the season – had a track recognition session around the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

“After some relaxing time between the last race and the next, which also was good for doing some analysis work, we have the batteries fully charged for the last two events of the season, which happen to be very traditional because they are held on tracks that are very good and very special.

“We had our track recognition session and it was very good and positive for us, although it took a long time because the track is seven kilometers in length. We saw that one of the bends is changed and some other details that will help us set up the car”, said the driver.

This track is not new to the Mexican, as he has been here before with other series such as F-BMW and last year with the GP3 Series, so his expectation for the weekend is to reach the points paying zone.

“This is a track I like very much; it is fast, with high speed turns that make it very interesting. Tomorrow we´ll see how the car feels but I know I will enjoy it very much. We are very excited to be back in action.

“Basically we have to be realistic about our chances. We have to keep working as hard as ever, with the same goals and mindset, and try to achieve our target which is a points result”, he added.

An important factor that Esteban and the French team will take into consideration is the weather, as the qualifying session is scheduled to be run under rain, and they want to do a smart job and get a good starting position for the first race.

“The weather factor is a very important thing on this track. It is very variable therefore we have to be prepared like we did in the three events in which we had this weather conditions that make for very interesting races”, he remarked.
