Esteban concluded successfully his participation in Silverstone

Silverstone, England - Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez started tenth and gained two positions in the race to finish eighth on the British circuit in the second race of the GP2 Series.

19 year old driver Gutierrez climbed up two positions at the very start of the race and kept his position until the checkered flag, thus closing races 9 and 10 weekend of the 2011 season in the F1 feeder series.

“Certainly overtaking is very difficult on this track, especially when you have to deal between being conservative and save your tires and being aggressive. At the beginning I tried to save my tires while keeping the distance to my teammate (Jules Bianchi), but in the end I wasn’t able to catch up with the leaders again.

“At the end I had a chance to overtake Christian Vietoris, although it was a little risky with only two laps to go because I really wasn’t much faster than him. In general terms it was a very positive race, and having been able to gain some positions was very important to us”, said the driver.

Esteban, who finished the race in 37 minutes and 04.538 seconds, gives great value to what he was through this weekend, as the changing weather conditions were a great source of knowledge that he will apply in the future.

“All in all, I keep the experience, mainly because the conditions changed constantly, first starting on wets and later on changing to slicks was something I had not lived in the GP2 but now I’ve been there and learned from it for the future”, he added.

Team Lotus ART and the driver himself see the weekend in England as a positive experience that has helped Esteban in his growing and adaptation process on his debut season in the GP2 Series.

“In general terms it is a positive result, obviously we would have liked to earn some points but the realistic goals that we had set for us were to finish in the top ten, and we remain positive to continue working and improving to consistently be in the points.

“We are satisfied, but obviously we are seeking to improve several aspects”, explained the Mexican.

Esteban Gutierrez will join Sauber’s Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi to travel to Switzerland for a training week before focusing in the next event, which will take place in Nurburg, Germany.
