Silverstone, England - Despite not having enough track time due to weather conditions in the historic British circuit, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez did well in qualifying and will start tomorrow’s feature race from seventh.

All Gutierrez could do were five laps around the track with a best lap time of 2 minutes 0.109 seconds to start the race inside the points positions.

“The situation with the weather was definitely a little confusing because with variable conditions the situation changes, especially in qualifying on a fast track where you need to adapt quickly and well.

“We started off with wet and dry conditions, mainly dry, but I took the track a little late and found some traffic, so when I finally had a free lap it started pouring and it was very challenging but that lap was a key to reach eighth place”, said Esteban.

Even though he was eighth fastest, 19 year old driver will start the race from seventh after Romain Grosjean was penalized from the previous race in Valencia and dropped from third to 13th.

“In the end we are seventh because one of the drivers in front was penalized and in general terms we are very happy with the way things turned out. We have a great starting position and reached our objective of being among the top ten.

“Now that we are in the points we can think about finishing in that zone which would be great for us”, he continued.
With the changing weather conditions, Esteban and team Lotus ART will seek to make a smart race and stay in the points paying zone.

“The weather keeps changing and it is very difficult to say what we can expect but we also know that for that same reason it is hard to plan ahead, which will make for an interesting race. We will have to make fast and smart decisions”, he remarked.

Gutierrez’s teammate Jules Bianchi got the pole position with which team Lotus ART has a good chance of adding some points this weekend.
