Esteban did not start the race in Monaco, for a failure in the car

Monte Carlo, Monaco - Today in Monaco, Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez was forced to stay out of race number six of the GP2 Series with a hydraulic problem in his car.

Just a few minutes before the start, a failure appeared in Gutierrez’s car, which prevented him from being on time at the starting grid, and even though team Lotus ART tried to fix the problem, Esteban was not able to take part in the sixth race of the season.

“We had a problem with the hydraulics of the car at the beginning of the race. That is something that is actually out of our control because it´s a sealed piece and there was nothing we could do to start the race.

“There is not much to say. The weekend was not so good because we missed the second race, but on the other hand the experience acquired yesterday was very positive. We just take these things as they come, we learn from them and we move on”, explained the driver.

Esteban and the French team endured a difficult weekend in Monte Carlo, as yesterday a pit incident damaged the front wing of the car and kept the Mexican far from the first positions.

“We noticed the failure when we were going out for the installation lap. We actually checked it before, the engine started and everything was fine until minutes before the start. Things happen for a reason.

“The team (Lotus ART) are a little disappointed, but I think they shouldn’t be and just keep going forward. Sometimes many things go wrong at the same time but we must focus on the job and keep moving on”, he remarked.

The 19-year-old driver will spend a few days with his family in Mexico, but his training will continue towards the next event, which are races 7 and 8 of the F1 feeder series, and are taking place in Valencia, Spain, on June 24-26th.

“You can take something positive out of any situation. I stay with the first race. We have to be positive and focus on the next races because this is not over. There are still six events to come.

“I am going to spend some time with my family in Mexico, and we will be working with the team. We are going to clear our mind and prepare to move forward to get to Valencia in a strong way”, he concluded.

Wishes “Checo” Perez to get well soon

After the also Mexican driver Sergio Perez crashed his Sauber F1 car this morning, Esteban Gutierrez (test and reserve driver for the same team) expressed his feelings and wished his teammate to get well soon.

“First of all, it made me very happy to hear that he is fine, that he is ok because it was a heavy crash; and second, that we are with him, that we hope he comes back to racing soon, and at the same time this should be a useful experience for him.

“You have to take this (the accident) as an experience. You have to move on. This is what such situations are for and you have to make the most out of it", he remarked.
