Esteban Gutierrez

Barcelona, Spain – Prior to the start of the season, Esteban Gutierrez finished the second day of the official GP2 series test with a sixth place in the afternoon session.

The circuit of Catalunya -4.655km long- was designated for this training, where the Mexican driver did 27 laps and finished 23rd in the morning session with a lap time of 1m30.847s.

“We had a few inconveniences in the morning session; we wanted to try some drastic changes to reach specific conclusions for some of the doubts we had, and saw what was best for us.

 “It has been a very positive day. We were able to continue working on the tire aspect of the car, which will be crucial in the races”, commented Gutierrez after the practice.

 In the afternoon, 19 year old driver Gutierrez finished in a better position by placing himself sixth with a best lap time of 1m31.184s on the 12th lap of the 38 he did around the track, and praised the good work he has done together with his team Lotus ART.

“The team is happy because our progress since the beginning of the year has been significant, we have achieved consistently good results in every aspect and that is what keeps us fired up because even when the results are evident in a different way, we see the details of our progress and that is what really matters”, he added.

Speaking about what he has learned since the beginning of the year when he competed in the GP2 Asia Series, Esteban said that he has grown as a driver and is more adapted to the car, though there is still room for improvement.

“Obviously this time has helped me getting used to the car, the races in GP2 Asia and the training, and it should continue like this.
“Obviously this doesn’t mean the time has been enough to be 100 percent adapted to the car but we will continue working on that aspect to be 100 percent as soon as possible”, he remarked.

Esteban’s next meeting will be the first round of the GP2 Main Series which begins on May 6th with free practice and qualifying in Istambul, Turkey, along with the Formula 1.
