Esteban Gutierrez

Barcelona, Spain – Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez had a productive day during the official test of the GP2 Series at the Catalunya Circuit, by finishing third and sixth fastest today.

On the morning session, in which he managed a total of 25 laps around the Catalunya circuit, Gutierrez placed himself third with a lap time of 1m29.976s. The session was dominated by Charles Pic at Barwa Addax Team (1:29.875).

“We have been running different tests and it is important to have a reference point like today. We want to get better and it is going to happen one step at a time; right now we are in the top ten and between the top three.

“We end the day satisfied but we know we have to continue working because the tire aspect has been critical and it’s going to be difficult in the races, but we are striving to improve”, he said after the first day of official training.

During the afternoon session, the driver at team Lotus ART finished sixth with a lap time of 1m30.402s, after not being able to do all the laps they had programmed and having managed to do only 14.

“The truth is, it was very positive because we made the most out of the first day of training, we followed the program as planned, although we’ve had a few tire related problems that prevented us from running many laps.

“We are trying to improve that aspect. We really didn´t run many laps because we did a number of changes that took a lot of time but resulted to be very positive. We´ll be back tomorrow with a different strategy”, he remarked.

Gutierrez will do two more sessions on the Catalunya circuit as part of the final official training before the start of the F1 feeder series scheduled for May 6th in Turkey.
