Le Castellet, France – Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez and French team ART Grand Prix finished successfully the second official GP3 testing day at the French track of Paul Ricard.
During the morning session, Esteban placed himself in the fourth position, with a best lap time of 1:20.495. The qualifying session – which determined the car number allocation for the 2010 season – took place around noon, with Esteban and 25 other drivers taking part of the shootout. The 30 minute session took place on the 3D configuration of the track, from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm, local time. The final qualifying was determined by the best lap time among the three drivers of each team.
After a closely fought session, team ART Grand Prix took first place with two of their three drivers – Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez – recording the first and second fastest laps of the session. With this result, the team´s cars will carry numbers 1, 2 and 3 throughout the 2010 season of the European series. During the session, one of the tires in Gutierrez’s car was punctured, preventing him to do many laps; still, he recorded some good times while he was on the track.
This is how the car numbers have been assigned:
Only those drivers that have been officially announced to participate in 2010 season of the GP3 series were eligible for number assignation. Assigned numbers will be in effect from the third official test, which will take place on the Catalunya race track, in Barcelona, Spain, on April 13th, and 14th.
On the afternoon session of the second training day, Gutierrez did 48 laps around the track, recording the second best time of the session, with 1:20.873, closing his participation in style.
