Jerez de la Frontera, Spain – Mexican driver Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez is only a few hours from making history and seeing one of his biggest dreams come true: to be the youngest Mexican driver to ever drive a Formula One car, with 18 years and 118 days old.
Esteban’s appointment at the track of Jerez de la Frontera was at 16:30 today, but he decided to be there at 8:00 as an observer, with the idea of seeing as much as he can of what is involved in an official Formula One test, with the BMW Sauber Team.
The young driver arrived at the track and was with the team from 8 am to 10 pm (Spain time) to be close to the work being done by engineers, mechanics, and physical trainers and get to understand it a little better.
During the day, Esteban was asking the team members some questions and walked around the track with Track Operations Engineer, Mr. Patrick Fluri. Later, he tried on his helmet and racing suit, and sit on the car, leaving everything ready for the unique experience that awaits him tomorrow from 9:00 to 17:00, when he will try to do as many laps as possible.
Esteban is relaxed, happy and ready for this valuable experience that he has earned from the excellent result he has had during the past three years.
Gutierrez expects all his work from previous months to be evident tomorrow, most of all, he intends to enjoy the great opportunity that the team BMW Sauber has given him.
“This is not only about the day we drive the car, we are here to live the experience the whole three days. This is definitely a positive experience that will add up to our resume,” commented Esteban.
“Every thing we experience here will be better each time. I feel we are prepared for tomorrow as I’m starting to feel how this world is to which I will have to adapt to do the best possible work. I am very excited about this test and I hope I can enjoy the work to go home with a lot of positive things,” he remarked.
