Accident Affects Esteban’s Qualifying

October 9, 2009

Dijon, France – After a positive start during the practice sessions, in which he accomplished the third and second best times of the sessions, Mexican driver Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez had a big accident while qualifying for round 17 of the Formula 3 Euroseries, from which he came out unharmed.

It was on turn five where Esteban went off track and hit heavily a tire wall, damaging the car and bringing out a red flag that stopped the session for about 15 minutes.

Esteban, together with French team ART Grand Prix are currently analyzing in detail what happened today in order to learn from this experience. The team will work overnight to have the car ready for tomorrow’s race.

Since the young driver registered only three laps around the track, his best lap registered puts him on the 21st grid position for tomorrow’s race.

“Today we started off practice with very good speed, our GP2 training helped me feel more confident to drive the F3 car, especially on fast turns”, said Esteban.

“Unfortunately, after having been second and third on practice, I had a big shunt while qualifying and was left out of the session.

“These are very common racing incidents and all you can do is recognize that you made a mistake, especially when you are driving at the very limit trying to be as fast as you can. Thank God I am ok, considering the weekend is not over. Tomorrow, we will try and have a good strategy that allow us to climb up as many positions as possible”, he concluded.

Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, and Bell for supporting him on this stage of his career.
