Esteban’s race affected by contact with other cars in Barcelona

September 19, 2009

Barcelona, Spain - Multiple incidents occurred this Saturday in Catalunya, and because of them, seven drivers, including Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez, were not able to finish race 15 of the Formula 3 Euroseries 2009.

Esteban started out from sixth on the grid and after a perfect start he soon gained two places, but when he was running fourth, another driver tried to recover his lost place and caused the Mexican driver’s car to be hit on both sides.

Esteban had to go to the pits to change the front left tire, which was punctured, and re-joined the race in last place.

Thanks to his talent, Esteban was moving up the field again, but his car was hit again on lap twelve when another driver tried to overtake on the inside of curve 1.

Esteban’s car was severely damaged on the right side, the suspension and the rear right tire.

The driver who caused this incident was suspended and fined when it was determined the incident was avoidable.

This is the second time in the season that Esteban fails to finish a race due to a contact, but it still good to know that he was the driver who registered the fastest top speed of the race, reaching 245 kph.

The Mexican driver and the team are calmed from knowing that they’re doing their best effort and are focused for tomorrow’s race, number 16 of the season.

Esteban will start this 36 laps or 40 minutes race from P 20.

“It was an unlucky race for us today. At the start I was able to gain two places taking advantage of a good grip and from a good reaction when lights turned green. Fighting for fourth place on the first corner another car came from the inside of the curve, very aggressively, touching my car and causing me to hit another car that was on the outside,” commented Esteban.

“It actually was a little bad luck for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is very difficult to avoid incidents like this when there are cars everywhere on the first corner. The important thing is that we have to turn the page, forget what happened today and keep working hard for the rest of the season”.

“This is just another experience increasing the hunger to win. I thank God today’s incidents weren’t worse and we look forward for tomorrow’s race, in which I hope I can enjoy the driving and that fights for positions and overtaking will be good for more learning”, remarked the representative from Latin America.

Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, and Bell for supporting him on this stage of his career.
