Esteban Finished Fifth in Brands Hatch and now is Ninth in the Championship

September 6, 2009

Kent, England – Mexican Driver Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez crossed the finish line in fifth place at the end of round 14 of the Formula 3 Euroseries 2009, moving up one step in the drivers championship.

The 18 years old Mexican driver, added up two more points to his tally and now has 20 units, enough to move him up from tenth to ninth in the championship standings.

Esteban, quien arrancó segundo en la parrilla, tuvo algunos obstáculos desde el inicio debido a que el agarre en las llantas le afectó en la tracción del carro y afectó a que las condiciones se propiciaran para subir al podio.

Esteban, who started the race in second place, had some obstacles since the beginning of the race, due to the grip of the tires affected his chance for a podium finish.

“It was another difficult race after having started from second on the grid. At the start I had little grip and that affected the car´s traction. I lost one place going out of the first curve and stayed third for most of the race", Gutierrez said.

On the other hand, several yellow flags kept interrupting the race, including the safety car being deployed two times.

“During re-start, I lost another position and with a few laps remaining in the race I went off at the first corner, nearly hitting the wall, and losing yet another place", the driver explained.

However, he did competitive lap times and a consistent race to end up being the best of the four drivers of his team.

This weekend´s races, together with the two held in Nurburg, Germany, add up to four consecutive races in which Esteban earns points, which demonstrates his consistency and the experience he has acquired in this important series.

“All I can say is that this was a difficult race and I made a few mistakes. Brands Hatch is a track where you have to be very confident and we will continue focused in learning from our mistakes.

“The positive note we take out of the weekend is that we were able to finish in the points in both races, which means a lot to us. Thank God we finished both races without incidents and I expect to keep making less and less mistakes every time. I want to thank to all the people who are close to me and to the Latin American fans for all their support”, he remarked.

The next event for Esteban will be held in the Autodromo International do Algarve, Portugal, on September 11-13, when he will see action again in the British Formula 3 International. These events will serve as preparation and learning for Esteban as well as for the rest of the team.

Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, and Bell for supporting him on this stage of his career.
