Esteban Earns Points and Will Start Second Tomorrow

September 5, 2009

Kent, England - Mexican driver Esteban Manuel Gutierrez Gutierrez finished round 13 of the Formula 3 Euroseries in seventh place today.

With this good result, Esteban added up two more points to his tally, and remains 10th in the drivers championship, with 18 points.

There was a heavy accident at the start of the race involving drivers Tiago Geronimi and Jules Bianchi, one of Esteban’s teammates.

Fortunately, the drivers got out unharmed, but the incident brought out a red flag and the race was stopped for four hours, after which the race restarted without any more incidents.

Esteban, who drives for French team ART Grand Prix, will start Sunday’s race from second place, which represents a clear opportunity for the young talent to achieve his best result so far this season.

"Today’s race was very competitive, although there was not a lot of overtaking. For the entire race I pressuring hard on the driver who was fifth because the only way to overtake in this circuit is by taking advantage when the guy in front makes a mistake”, Esteban said.

"Being so close to the car in front I made a mistake on curve 1, where a lot of aerodynamic load is lost. With this mistake I lost sixth place and ended the race seventh”.

"Even though it is not the result we were looking for, we finished in a points paying position, which shows that we are able to earn points consistently. We will start from second tomorrow, with a very good chance and that is why it will be so important to keep a cool mind during the race and make the best out of the place where we are. We have been quick in all sessions and that makes me think it is possible to win tomorrow. I will do my best with what I have and with God’s help I will try and finish both races in the points”, remarked Gutierrez.

Esteban thanks his sponsors Multigama, DeAcero, Telmex, Alpinestars, and Bell for supporting him on this stage of his career.
