Mechanical failure puts Esteban out of the race

28-07-2013.- A leak in the gearbox during the Grand Prix of Hungary forced Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez to leave the race.

Sauber Team driver Gutiérrez started from 17th on the grid and reached tenth, entered the pits to change tires and a few laps later the team ordered him to abandon the race.

“It was a leak in the gearbox, with the high temperatures we obviously could not continue and I was told by the team that we had to retire from the race, I had no choice.

“For the last two laps I started to feel like the car was losing power, I was losing time and didn't know why. When the team told me later, it was all clear”, explained the driver after his retirement.

On lap 28 of 70 around the Hungaroring, the team ordered Esteban to abandon the race.

“There wasn't much to do, you have to accept what it is, we have to stay positive and keep working to improve.

“Our strategy was working fine, I think we could have fought for a good position but any chance disappeared with this failure, but that's racing”, he added.

The winner of the race was Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, followed by Lotus-Renault driver Kimi Raikkonen and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.

“We have to stay positive, what matters is what comes next, I have a lot of faith and confidence in what I do here, I have been able to improve what I have to improve and that is what keeps me motivated.

“We have made progress, the car was running well in the race and we have to make the most of that, just by avoiding little failures like the one today that really hurt us in the end”, he remarked.
