Esteban is Ready for Monaco
May 22nd, 2013 - Mexican driver Esteban Gutiérrez is ready to face a new Formula One challenge, the Monaco Grand Prix, which, due to its own characteristics, is one of the most special and important of the season.
Gutiérrez has described driving around this street circuit as an adventure, where he wishes to make progress, just as he did in the Spanish Grand Prix.
“What's important is to maintain focus, to continue working in the same direction as Barcelona and to try and make the kind of weekend we had last time out to be consistent in every event.
“It is absolutely unique, a very interesting circuit, an adventure to drive on these conditions where the walls are so close and you have uphills, downhills, changing gears throughout the corners and all of the characteristics that make this such an special circuit. That aspect you can really enjoy and I am focused on moving progressively in preparation for qualifying”, said Esteban.
Team Sauber F1's driver has said that confidence is key to drive on a circuit like Monaco, where he will seek to make the most out of the weekend.
“Being confident is very important on this circuit, especially because this is my first time in Monaco as a Formula One driver, which is something I will use during the weekend to just try and go forward.
“The most important thing as a driver is to make the most out of what we have. Right now this is my personal view as it is a little difficult to judge before the event has even started. As we have seen things change from one race to the next, some circuits are more suited for our car than others, and we have to be open and prepared for anything", he added.
Talking about the atmosphere in Monaco, Esteban said that even when it is a very special venue, it will be very important to stay focused.
“It is a great atmosphere, but the real important thing for us as drivers is the driving, being focused with the team. Still, this event feels different and special", he remarked.
