Esteban expects an improved car
23-08-2013.- Mexican driver Esteban Gutiérrez suffered a number of difficulties with the car during the first day of the Belgian Grand Prix, and he will have to work to improve towards tomorrow's qualifying session.
On practice one, Gutiérrez was seventh fastest, with 18 laps around the circuit at Spa-Francorchams and a best lap time of 1:55.954. It was on practice 2 when he had problems with the car.
"I am not to happy because I was not comfortable with the car. We tested many things, the morning was not that bad, the afternoon was not good with a lack of downforce, the car doesn't feel right, and we lost a part of the diffuser that affected the speed.
"(The diffuser problem) It happened at the beginning of practice two, so it really had an impact on speed but anyway we have to improve the car", said the Mexican.
Esteban did 26 laps on practice two, his best lap time was 1:51.644 and he placed himself 18th.
"This is a track I really like and it is incredible to drive around it on a Formula One car, the feeling is good but when the balance of the car is not right then obviously it's not the best feeling but we have to improve for tomorrow".
"Let's wait, this is something we have to evaluate, make a decision for tomorrow and see if we can improve that aspect so I can feel comfortable in the car and be able to drive the best way possible", he remarked.
Gutiérrez knows it's not going to be easy, but he trusts the situation will get better for him and the team.
"Things look a little difficult but we must work and do our best with what we have.
"Anything can happen, it's a changing weekend with variable weather conditions in Spa. I just want the best result I can, on a wet or dry track", he explained.
Practice three will take place at 11:00 (local time, 04:00 Mexico Central Time), while the qualifying session will begin at 14:00.
