Esteban came from behind in Belgium

25-08-2013.- After a difficult qualifying that put him 21st on the grid, Mexican driver Esteban Gutiérrez put on a great performance in the race on the Belgian Grand Prix, where he gained seven places to cross the line in 14th position.

Gutiérrez reached the points zone but was penalized at the end of the race after being deemed guilty of cutting the track affecting Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado.

“We realized that the strategy was not right but, anyway, I think it was not really that bad because even like that we were able to keep a good pace.

“At the end I had to do a drive through with which I really don't agree, because when I passed Pastor (Maldonado) we were side by side and he left me no room to re-enter the track”, said the Mexican.

Esteban expressed his disagreement with the race officers, but said he will take appropriate measures so this won't happen again.

“I totally respect them but this time I disagree and I have to watch it in more detail; this can't happen again. Even with the penalty we didn't lose much, I probably could have finished ahead of Nico (Hülkenberg) as I had a good pace, so we just have to see it from a positive perspective and keep working.

“The truth is the real damage was done in qualifying, by missing that opportunity because my race pace could have put me in the top ten”, he remarked.

First place was for Sebastian Vettel, who was followed by runner-up Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton coming home third.
