Esteban Adapting to the Track in Suzuka

11-10-2013.- Mexican driver Esteban Gutiérrez appeared for the first time on the track of Suzuka during free practice one and two for the Japanese Grand Prix, where he had to get adapted quickly.

Gutiérrez finished 18th on the morning session where his best lap time was 1:36.760 after 22 laps.

In the afternoon, Esteban did 36 laps with a best lap time of 1:35.089, to be eleventh fastest.

“This is what we needed, to learn the track first, and during the morning session it was important to achieve that as early as possible; this is a difficult circuit as it takes some time to find the right line on sector one, which is very technical and kept me busy for some time in practice one

“The second session was a step forward and we expect to improve even more tomorrow”, said the Mexican.

Esteban described his impressions from driving for the first time on this track, which is one of the favorite tracks of several drivers in Formula One.

“It is a different circuit, you can really enjoy sector one, the first corner where you enter flat out and then the fast turns, turn eight and nine are very special.

“We are struggling a little bit, we have to work hard to re-gain some of what we have done in past races and we hope that will be the case”, he remarked.

Esteban mourns passing of De Villota

The sad news about the death of ex-driver María de Villota reached the paddock of the Japanese Grand Prix and Esteban Gutiérrez was sorry for it and sent his sincere condolences to her family.

“I had the opportunity to meet her. I just heard the news and it's not the best feeling. I am very sorry about it, I hope her family is well and we will be praying for her peaceful rest”, said Esteban.
