05.10.2014.- On a Japan Grand Prix which ended early due to a heavy crash in the latest stages of the race, Mexican driver Esteban Gutiérrez crossed the line on P13.
In lap 41 of 53, Marussia driver Jules Bianchi crashed against a recovery vehicle that was lifting Adrian Sutil's Sauber car.
The French driver was taken to a hospital and the FIA reported that he has undergone surgery and will be taken to the intensive care unit.
“I think to stop the race was the right decision. I really hope Jules (Bianchi) is ok”, said Gutiérrez after the race at the Suzuka circuit.
On a different note, Esteban talked about his performance on this Sunday's race, which had rain most of the time and started behind the Safety Car.
“In terms of my performance in the race, I fought from the beginning until the very end; conditions were very tricky and it was very difficult to get to the race pace right away”, he remarked.
First place was for Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, followed by teammate Nico Rosberg and Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel, who completed the podium.
Next Grand Prix will take place on October 10-12 in Russia.
