23-11-2013.- Mexican driver Esteban Gutiérrez had a difficult qualifying session for the last round of the Formula One season and will start tomorrow’s race from the 18th spot on the grid.

The Mexican’s best time was 1:27.445, which was set on the opening laps of the session, despite trying to improve his time, he was not able to.

“It was really difficult to improve the time on this session, we did better times but none like the one in the first lap. The track conditions in the first lap were better, as it was dry, but then started raining and it only got worse.

“I was able to improve but not on sectors one and two; I made a mistake in the last turn and lost all the time there”, said Esteban.

Gutiérrez explained what happened in Q1 that prevented him from reaching a better starting position for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

“I really tried to improve my time, but the track got worse with every lap, it was very slippery, we changed tires for the final moments but it was not enough and I was short by two tenths.

“Sector three was the most difficult, it got worse at the end of the session and I was couldn’t manage a good lap time”, he remarked.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel clinched the pole position (1:26.749), followed by Mercedes’s Nico Rosberg (1:27.102) and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso (1:29.529).
