Esteban Gutierrez word of advice for future athletes

estebangtz_fancolumnBefore moving on to the German Grand Prix for the next round of the Formula One season, here’s this interesting article.

Every day our social networks, as well our web sites Esteban Racing and Esteban Gutiérrez’s personal page receive hundreds of emails and messages with congratulations, greetings, questions and many other things from Esteban’s fans. As you understand, it is close to impossible to address and respond to all those messages either from Esteban’s PR team or from Esteban himself, due to his busy schedule. However, every now and then he takes some time to read his email and respond to the most relevant or urgent ones and the following is one letter that draw his attention especially because it reminded him of his first steps in motorsport.

As many of you know, Esteban first started kart racing in the Mexican Rotax Max Challenge, and from there he jumped to the Formula BMW USA Series and went through other important series before getting to Formula One.

That is precisely why he decided to respond to this letter in a public manner, hoping that it will not only help Gabriel Richer but also other current or future drivers who want to pursue a professional career in motor racing. The following is the letter that Gabriel kindly authorized us to publish along with the response from Esteban Gutiérrez. We hope you´ll like it.

Gabriel Richer wrote:

Hello Esteban, like you, I am from Monterrey and I know that you don’t know me but apparently we had the same principal in junior high school. Professor Rolando Ramos Peart.

I know him since he came to work for Highlands School of Monterrey. One day we were talking and I told him I was interested in kart racing and, after a long talk he told me you were his student when you attended junior high at the Irlandés School of Monterrey.

At the moment I was shocked to hear that my principal had among his students no other than the newest Mexican driver in F1, especially because I dream of getting to where you are.

I’d like to know if you can give me some advice regarding karting because I am going to start there and I want to know how to win, any advice will be great to know if I am following the right path. Please tell me something about your own story so I can follow the steps of the teacher.

I just wanted you to know my story and that I admire you very much and wish you all the luck and that I hope you win in the next races.

Bye, I hope you read this message and not to take a lot of your time.

Thank you for your time, you are the best!

Esteban’s response:

Dear Gabriel,

First of all, thank you very much for your comments. I am happy to give you some advice about how important it is to work hard to make your dreams come true.

The most important thing is to pursue your dream from the beginning to the very end, to always have a learning attitude without thinking that you are already talented, that is basic for your development because success in life does not come without effort and intelligence. You have to be open to face each and every challenge you find, from making contacts, closing agreements that will help fund your career, keep close to your surroundings, including family, get your gear, make good races, have a good relationship with your rivals, know how to lose and win gracefully, control your emotions, keep your head cool. Enjoy the entire process, the present that will lead you to achieve big things when you did not expect much and live intensely every single thing that you get to live in this life.

I recommend you to contact Martiga Driver Development, they are the people with which I learned many things about racing at the start of my career. You can find them on Facebook and Twitter under the name Martiga DD.

Thank you very much, I hope this helps. Best Regards!

Esteban Gutiérrez
